Copy of 18 November 2025 email to all RRCFA members
We did it! We passed a motion at our Annual General Meeting to create a union and we’ve since made an application for union status at the Manitoba Labour Board (MLB). Furthermore, we met with the MGEU leadership and they have agreed to assist and support us in the process of becoming our own bargaining unit within MGEU. The RRCFA sees this as a positive step for the faculty and are encouraged by the support and reciprocated our willingness to work with them in this process. We will continue to recruit and gather our strength in numbers regardless of the outcome while we forge our path forward.
Next step: we need as many Instructors as possible to join the RRCFA with their personal email addresses so we can keep them informed.
Here’s how you can help:
1. Forward this email to the personal email address of other Instructors before the current term is over. We need you to keep recruiting others. Talk to EVERYONE about this important movement!
2. Sign-up, by emailing rrcfarecruiting@ gmail.com, to be assigned a staff room to 'wander' into and hand out printed copies of this email to Instructors (print from home or Staples - please do not use RRC supplies). You tell us how big a staff room you have time to visit. Many only have 1 or 2 people in them. Others have more. We'll tell you the options. You pick!
Below is the message to copy and paste to send to potential members:
Dear RRC Instructors:
WE NEED YOU to join the hundreds of Instructors that are already members of the RRC Faculty Association (RRCFA).
The RRCFA has been in existence since 2015. The primary goal of our association is to unite all faculty to form a separate bargaining unit, certified by the Manitoba Labour Board, and preferably within MGEU, but, if necessary, outside of MGEU.
The following are the main reasons why we need a separate bargaining unit:
- Many working conditions that instructors need to negotiate with our employer are unique to the role of instructor and do not impact support staff.
- Our bargaining structure gives management an advantage at the bargaining table because a “divide and conquer strategy” works by addressing the minimum issues necessary to get either Instructors OR support staff to accept management’s offer. It is not in either Instructors’ or support staffs’ best interests to threaten strike action for the interests of the others. This means RRCP instructors are among the lowest paid college instructors in Canada.
- Every post-secondary institution in Canada has a separate bargaining unit for faculty except Manitoba.
RRCFA membership is now free and all you need to do is send an email to rrcfarecruiting@gmail.com from your personal email address and say that you want to become a member.
Sincerely,
Andrew Warren, President
Nathan Goertzen, VP Notre Dame Campus
Jonathan Bailey, VP Exchange District Campus
Shaun Eaton, VP Satellite Campuses
Brandon Dueck, Treasurer
Harvey Suski, Secretary
Tara Mullen, Past-President
